چکیده

Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy is the treatment of choice for most patients with the sleep apnoea/hypopnoea syndrome. CPAP therapy is mainly used to improve daytime function but increasingly some centres are using CPAP to attempt to decrease cardiovascular risk. CPAP can be one of the most eVective forms of therapy in modern medicine. However, not all patients find this therapy ideal and many do not use it as much as physicians would wish. This paper reviews the potential outcomes from CPAP therapy, the data on patient use of CPAP therapy, the factors which limit CPAP use, and whether CPAP use can be improved.

Factors Affecting Patients’ Adherence to Continuous Positive Airway Pressure Therapy for Obstructive Sleep Apnea Disorder: A Multi-Method Approach

Background: Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) is the gold standard therapy for treating obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) disorder. However, patients’ adherence to its regular use is poor. The present study aimed to determine the adherence rate to CPAP therapy by identifying factors affecting its regular use and its associated problems and discomforts among a sample population in Mashhad (...

Controlled, prospective trial of psychosocial function before and after continuous positive airway pressure therapy.

The aim of the study was to investigate psychosocial function before and after continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy, and establish the determinants and consequences of objective CPAP use. In a prospective, parallel-group study, changes in psychosocial scores were compared with conservative management or CPAP therapy for the sleep apnoea/hypopnoea syndrome (SAHS). Patient/partner c...

AHI Outcomes Are Superior after Upper Airway Reconstructive Surgery in Adult CPAP Failure Patients.

OBJECTIVE This study aims to evaluate Apnea-Hypopnea Index (AHI) outcomes of upper airway adult obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) reconstructive surgery, as compared with outcomes of suboptimal continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy, in response to reviews claiming unreliable surgical AHI reduction. STUDY DESIGN Prospective cohort study. SETTING Single-surgeon series at medical cent...

In the hospital settin...

Comparison of Nasal Continuous Positive Airway Pressure Therapy with and without Prophylactic Surfactant in Preterm Neonates

Background: Preterm labor is at risk for respiratory distress syndrome (RDS) and sometimes requires to mechanical ventilation (MV) and surfactant therapy. Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) and Nasal Continuous positive airway pressure (NCPAP) are the methods of respiratory support especially for using in RDS of neonates. In other method surfactant is administered to babies via tracheal...
